April Showers Mean Cellos and Art

The April 6, 2012 edition of the Delaware Artist Showcase meant cellos and art in our part of the downtown for First Friday.  It was Mascot Madness night as the new professional lacrosse team had a great pep rally on the south side of the Sandusky and William Street intersection in front of Amatos, who is their designated restaurant for keeping the team fed.  Mascots from everywhere showed up.  We had a few come down. 


The artwork in the picture is from one of our vendors, Ami Banks.  She has some beautiful work. 

Jenney Kelley's Mom came in and had her beautiful purses to sell.

We had a great setup this time.  Since we only had five vendors, Mary Sue set the room up with chairs in the middle for people to come and sit down for a spell.  The cellos were awesome and we had a few folks in our audience section.  It was a really nice show, but we want to grow bigger for the next show and that's what we're going to do!

The Delaware Artist Showcase continues to evolve! 

We opened our doors with new signage at 5:30 pm on Friday, February 3rd.  There were five tables and LOTS of hurdles thrown into our path at the last minute.  Roilling with the punches was imperitive. 

We had vendors cancel at the last minute.  We had one vendor who "had to leave" earlier than expected.  We had many challenges and they made us angst as we searched for answers and resolutions that would make us feel better.  

By the end of the evening, we weren't thrilled with the notion of moving forward to our next show, especially as we discovered it was on Good Friday! 
Sales were very slow.  Crowds seemed to be only interested in collecting their chocolate.

Then on Sunday morning, out of nowhere, my husband handed me our This Week newspaper - freshly delivered.  The caption was awesome! 

      "Becky Dinovo takes one of Destiny Barber's Buckeye truffles
       at the Delaware Artist Showdcase during Main Street Delaware's
      "Chocolate Walk" during the First Friday event on Feb. 3. 
       Twenty-three businesses participated in the event."

We are a young group and we are continuing to make small steps toward our great goals!  It doesn't take much to get us back into the spirit of thinking about what we are doing and how to improve.

We'll continue on our path and grab the next bunch of challenges and master them! 

Our next show, is April 6.  We'll forge ahead. 

Two More Shows on the Way

We've been learning a lot lately! 

Two more shows have been scheduled for the Delaware Artist Showcase.  February 3, we will be a part of the Chocolate Walk on First Friday.  This is a Main Street sponsored event where you buy a ticket and get chocolate oriented yummies from the vendors at each location.  Hmm.  Might prove to be fantastic!   Meanwhile, the theme of this show is Chocolate and Wedding Accessories. 

The second show is April 6 and it is also on First Friday.  That show has me excited because it Introduces and Welcomes the Ohio Machine!  Can you believe it?  Delaware, Ohio has a PROFESSIONAL Lacrosse Team!!! 

November Artist Showcase Full of Lessons

I think one of the most important facets of the Delaware Artist Showcase is the variety we offer.  That probably saved us from having a mediocre show.  We brought together a few artists who were vendors, some more who were dancers and even more who were musicians.  It was a nice show but since we hadn't sold out all the vending spaces, we didn't have the greatest show.

We're ready for expansion.

The second Delaware Artist Showcase will have ten vendors, dancers from the Delaware Arts Castle and music from Eric and friends.  It takes place on Friday, November 4th.

The call for artists is geared to bring in artists who are beginning to sell to the public. 

The purpose of the Delaware Artist Showcase is to bring up and coming Delaware Artists to the Delaware community.

We're Ramping It Up!

The Delaware Artist Showcase is ramping it up!

The next Artist show will take place on November 4.  We are looking for a few good artists to vend with us.  We've got a facebook page.  We've got an email address.  And now we have a website! 

Our mission from the beginning has been to offer a setting for Delaware artists who want to start vending but haven't quite established themselves in the craft show arena.  We make it a little easier by offering a climate controlled (no weather worries) room with tables, chairs and electricity.  It's a small time frame too.  This show takes place on the first Friday of each month, from 5:30 p.m.til 9:00 pm.  There's music and dancing too! 

In the future, you can expect interviews and pictures.  Also things that we find helpful to assist Delaware Artists.  We hope that as we go along, we'll become an organization that helps others thrive by facilitating the journey.
